Plentiful Pleasing Podcasts

It’s been a while since I recommended podcasts to you, and my ears have been busy! Not only have I become addicted to Audible, but I’ve also listened to a ton of new-to-me podcasts on my daily walk to work.

I realized, after power watching two seasons of The Great British Baking Show, that I don’t really listen to food podcasts, so I checked out Sporkful. Sporks are my favorite utensil, so I was pretty jazzed from the start. “The Sporkful isn’t for foodies, it’s for eaters,” the website tells you. Dan Pashman investigates the world of food and it makes me really hungry. It’s also a very conscious podcast. The most recent episode is “Comic Phoebe Robinson On Interracial Eating,” in which Robinson talks about the complicated relationship of race and food. I highly recommend it.

That episode of Sporkful led me to Phoebe Robinson’s own podcast, 2 Dope Queens. Robinson is joined by Jessica Williams, formerly of The Daily Show. Listen to this podcast. Do it now. Two hilarious comedians touching on everything from race to best friendship to sex and hair. The episodes are about an hour long and perfectly curated. I particularly enjoyed “You Can’t Touch My Fanny Pack.” These women care deeply for one another and listening to them make each other laugh and discuss the serious stuff absolutely makes my day.

Another podcast about amazing women is She Does. This delight sounds like intimate conversations between friends. I recommend it for these hot summer nights. Find a porch, lay on a swing, listen to these conversations about the great things women are doing. These “conversations with creative minds” are hosted by Elaine McMillion Sheldon and Sarah Ginsburg, documentary filmmakers and highly inquisitive people.

No, not the Robyn song. This is the best podcast for my current situation of my long time best friends moving away.  Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow are long distance BFFs and their show is the great conversations they have to keep in touch. Their recent episodes dealt with gun control, black girl magic, and meeting Kim Kardashian.

What’ve you been listening to? What’re your favorite recent episodes? What do I need to be putting into my brain?
