Drink Your Comics: Sunstone Three Ways

A couple wearing corsets and BDSM attire lean back to back on the cover of Sunstone Volume 2 by Stjepan Sejic

Sunstone volume 4 by Stjepan Šejić, Top Cow 2016Have you read Sunstone by Stjepan Sejic? Please tell me you have! If you haven’t, I have two reviews for you to read: One by my colleague Wendy and one by me. Now, go, check them out, and then read Sunstone. If you like funny, endearing characters tossed into a story with some spice and romance, you won’t regret it!

My favorite aspect of Sunstone actually isn’t the spicy BDSM scenes, as awesome as they are. It’s the scenes where Lisa and Ally flop onto the couch together, relax, and banter. Over the course of the series, Lisa and Ally’s romance grows not so much in the bedroom, but in the dorky, endearing, everyday moments in between.

Those are the kinds of drinks that Sunstone inspired me to make: easy, relaxed, and flavorful. With a hint of zest. Oh! And one more thing: Because volume 4 introduces a potential third (ooh la la!), I focused on three-ingredient drinks.

Not feeling your bottle of red wine? Need something to go with your take-out pizza and cheesy movie? Give this a shot, then cuddle up with your sweetie and dork out.

Ingredients

  • 3 parts wine
  • 2 parts brandy
  • 1 part triple sec or Cointreau

Directions

Shake all together then serve it how you like it: On the rocks, vertical, horizontal … Add a twist of lemon for extra special kicks!

Comforting Toddy by Amanda VailComforting Toddy

After a long night of, um, exercise, sometimes you just need to ease into the morning. This non-alcoholic toddy can fit into just about any part of the day.

Ingredients

  • 1 lemon, cut into eighths
  • 2 stalks of lemongrass, cut into segments
  • 2 inches of ginger, peeled and sliced
  • boiling water

Directions

For best results, toss these ingredients into a bowl and pound on them for a bit. That’ll make them niiiiiice and relaaaaxed and ensure that your flavors jive. Then, put them into a teapot and pour boiling water over them and voila! Actually, as you can see, I like to use a French Press because it’s easy and everything looks so pretty together. If you like your toddy a bit sweeter, add some honey, and if you like it a bit harder, add some whisky or brandy.

Fancy Gin & Tonic with Wolf Link
How did my amiibo get in there? I don’t drink and play video games or anything… *cough*

Fancy Gin and Tonic

A gin and tonic is my standby. What’s not to love about aromatic, smooth gin paired with the bite of tonic and a lovely slice of lime? But, you know, sometimes I want to kink it up a bit. My version of wearing vinyl is adding a third ingredient to my favorite drink. And you know what? I love it. Maybe I’ll try actually wearing vinyl next time.

Ingredients

  • 3 parts gin
  • 1 part lemongrass shrub
  • Tonic water

Directions

Shake the gin and shrub together, then pour over ice in your favorite glass and top with tonic to taste. Add a slice of lime because, um, yes! Lime is the best!

Now, dear readers, if I may: I suggest that you settle in with your favorite drink and a copy of Sunstone for a nice, comfy, sexy evening.
