Simon & Schuster to publish Taylor Swift “scrapbook”

Fans will get a chance to help create the book, a collection of magazine articles and other memorabilia documenting Swift’s career. An honourary author will be named from the winners of a video contest hosted by the publisher, and fans can also enter to suggest titles for the book.

Led by Eddie Redmayne, the film does seem to capture some of the magic from the original Harry Potter series. We get a fleeting look at the Magical Congress, and Redmayne’s Scamander using magic in what looks to be the start of an action sequence.

Canada Reads 2016 longlist announced

The CBC shared its longlist for next year’s Canada Reads debates on Wednesday, and all 15 books are interpretations of the theme of “starting over.” Many of the stories feature immigrants and refugees, along with characters who find themselves having to say goodbye to certain eras of their lives. The list will be whittled down to five books on January 20, with five debaters going on to discuss the books from March 21-24.

Chicago students stage sit-in to protest library closure

DuSable High School’s library was closed, allegedly by Chicago mayor Emanuel Rahm’s orders, and students are making their opinions known through peaceful protest at the school. They walked out of classes on December 11, and sat in the hallways with books from the school library, sharing their stories on the hashtag #saveourlibrary.
