#BlackComicsMonth’s Creator Needs Your Help!

Update: Some information was wrong. Initially, Vixen asked for $15, 000 and not $2, 100. The $2, 100 covered only the initial rehab expenses.

MsCaramelVixen, of Vixen Varsity and the brains behind #BlackComicsMonth, needs your help.

In 2014, Vixen suffered multiple injuries after being rear-ended at a red light. The insurance refused to cover her surgery and the post-surgery rehab expenses, despite her neurologist, surgeon, and the Insurance Medical Examiner all agreeing that it would dramatically improve her health. She took action and set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs.

After being released, I eventually found a neurologist who ran a battery of tests and after a few months, I was diagnosed with 3 degenerative discs along with sciatica. Doc says the nerve damage in my left leg might be permanent, but who knows. Except for an occasional hollow and burning feeling, I have no feeling in my left leg. In order to keep me from losing my balance and falling, I’ve been walking with a cane for over a year.

Intially, Vixen asked for $15, 000 for the week’s stay at the rehab facility as well as to help cover her expenses while she recovered. However, as of a November 5th update, Vixen was told that she would need two weeks of rehab instead of one and that the $300/day only covers room and board. With the meds, food, nurses and physical therapy added, the rehab expenses have been raised to over $700/night. Overall, she’s now asking for $20,000.

Look. I don’t want to do this, it’s killing my pride to have to ask for your help, but the reality is…I’m not Wonder Woman or shall I say Vixen and I can’t do it by myself.  I have to not just think of me, but for my girls.

If you can help, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you can’t help (trust me I know, it’s hard out here!), I still thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading and sharing.

As someone who’s constantly advocating for diversity in comics and beyond, it’s only fair to pay it forward. Over your support the best way you can whether it’s donating or sharing her page (or both!).
