New York Comic-con is officially in full swing, and people are lining up for the most popular events–including some of our own WWACers! In addition to celebrity panels and autograph sessions, there are sure to be some major announcements. I’m hoping for new North American manga licenses myself, but maybe that’s just me being greedy.
Speaking of North American manga companies, Kodansha USA’s Twitter account has been teasing their Attack on Titan panel for the past week. In fact, the panel itself is called “The Biggest Attack on Titan Manga Announcement Ever.” An entire panel dedicated to Attack on Titan? It is a bestselling series, so maybe that’s not so far-fetched. But what could this big announcement be? The company previously announced a variant cover for volume 16 of the manga at SDCC, but that didn’t warrant a dedicated panel.
Earlier today, however, Kodansha USA tweeted the following:
Special guests for our Attack on Titan panel today at 4: Scott Snyder, Brenden Fletcher, Genevieve Valentine, and Afua Richardson. Be there.

Wait a minute. I recognize those names, and they’re not ones I’d associate with manga!
A few months ago, an anonymous source told me that Penguin Random House was looking to publish Attack on Titan YA novels. (For those who don’t know, Penguin Random House is the U.S. distributor for Kodansha Comics.) Is that what today’s big announcement is about? Genevieve Valentine certainly has experience writing novels, after all!
Or are we getting original U.S. comics related to Attack on Titan? All of those writers have written comics, too.
Guess we’ll find out soon because that panel is about to start!
