Crowd Funder of the Week: Nerd Out App

Jackpot Comics, 02, digital comics museum

Looking to meet new people to share your nerdy interests? Missing out on nerd-related events in your area because you learned of them too late? Michelle “Elle” Jensen has a proposed solution for your problems with Nerd Out!

Nerd Out is an app that compiles nerd-related events around your local area so that you no longer need to use word-of-mouth or Facebook to find geeky fun. As well as helping you discover upcoming activities, Nerd Out will provide you with a personal calendar, an ability to set up notifications for the events you’re attending, and a networking system with friends. The planned beta will be free for users, with the Nerd Out Indiegogo funds going to app developers as well as the backer perks.

Nerd Out should prove a welcome relief for those whose nerdy friend groups are limited or for those who live in big cities, where events are difficult to promote. Nerd culture may be mainstream now, but it’s still a niche community that would benefit from having its own tools. Just the other day, I tried to check out meetup.com to find people with similar interests, but the website soon became overwhelming with the size of its offerings. Nerd Out, created by a nerd and targeted toward nerds, will be tailored more exclusively to people like us.
