Nearly 70 authors, scholars, artists, and city leaders call for support for libraries

As New York City libraries continue to buckle under the need for renovations and lack of funding, 62 authors have signed a letter asking for the city’s support. Judy Blume, E.L. Doctorow, Toni Morrison, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and John Legend are just some of the names on the letter. Invest in Libraries’ campaign asks for a “$65 million restoration in operating expenses…and $1.4 billion in capital funding for critical renovations and maintenance” so that the branches can continue to support their communities.

Poetry Foundation honors Jacqueline Woodson as Young People’s Poet Laureate

Make way for Jacqueline Woodson! Straight off the joy of Brown Girl Dreaming being chosen for the 2014 National Book Award, Woodson has also been named Young People’s Poet Laureate.
