Kickstarter of the Week: Datura: Wearable Art Armor

Daltura art and tshirt

Be the beautiful bad-ass warrior you’ve always dreamed you could be with this week’s Kickstarter of the Week. No cosplay or sword required.

Daltura tshirtOn the campaign page for Datura: Wearable Art Armor Kickstarter, artist Sam Guay talks about the concept:

“Datura” is one of my illustrations, born from mythic symbols and my love of decorative armor. I’ve been dreaming about making a wearable piece based on my original painting, and now I’m making that dream a reality by sharing it with all of the soldiers, shieldmaidens, and brave knights out in the world.”

I was first drawn to campaign by the title; I was intrigued by what wearable art armor could be. I love the idea of a t-shirt being described as wearable art and supporting an artist in ways other than just buying prints and painting. It also doesn’t hurt that she’s a fellow New Englander with ties to Maine and New Hampshire like myself.

Every day I hear about Kickstarters trying to raise thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars or more, for a project. It’s always refreshing for me to find solid small projects from creators testing the market. Backers in this campaign can feel like they’re an integral part of the project’s success by helping meet the $1000 goal.

Postcards by Sam GuayBacker rewards start at the $1 level for a Thank You and run through the $100 level for a t-shirt and a knight sketch. For process lovers, $10 level gets you a zine about the process of making the shirt and the $30 level get you a lovely t-shirt.
