The program will make trade paperbacks of six books available to educators and programs that help children in impoverished areas.
They include Niño Wrestles the World (Roaring Brook/Porter), written and illustrated by Yuyi Morales; And Tango Makes Three (S&S), written by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell, illustrated by Henry Cole; Tiger in My Soup (Peachtree), written by Kashmira Sheth illustrated by Jeffrey Ebbeler; Boats for Papa (Roaring Brook/Porter), written and illustrated by Jessixa Bagley; Emmanuel’s Dream: The True Story of Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah (Random/Schwartz & Wade), written by Laurie Ann Thompson, illustrated by Sean Quails; and Knock, Knock: My Dad’s Dream for Me (Little, Brown), written by Daniel Beaty, illustrated by Bryan Collier.
Each title will have a 10,000-book print run, and be sold on the First Book Marketplace website for $3 each. First Book’s work is part of the Stories for All project, supported by the Clinton Foundation’s Global Initiative Commitment to Action.
Actress Mindy Kaling lit up social media this week with the cover of her second book, due to arrive on bookshelves September 29, 2015. It follows Kaling’s successful first offering Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns)?, and will likely be heavily promoted at Book Expo America, where she will be opening BookCon.
A signed first edition copy of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’ 1967 novel One Hundred Years of Solitude was on display at the Bogota book fair when it was stolen from a guarded case. There were only 8,000 first copies of Solitude published in 1967 by Sudamerica, making it a highly sought-after edition. The owner later pulled the rest of the books he had donated for display at the fair, and the fair’s organizers have called and pleaded with the thieves to return the book.
The well-loved Dr. Seuss book will be adapted into a 13-episode animated series on Netflix, to be released in 2018. As the streaming network so aptly announced:
