Happy 2015, crusaders! Are you excited about the new year? Have any resolutions? I have a bunch, and several of them involve both more writing and more comics. I suspect this overlaps with many of you.
Let’s take a moment to glance back through the last year, shall we?
2014 was the Year of the Bat, as far as DC was concerned: we had multiple celebrations of Batman’s 75th anniversary, including a book giveaway.
It was a big year for DC TV, as they introduced Gotham and Constantine, though some loyal fans were skeptical of their choice to erase Constantine’s bisexuality. We said hello to Firestorm, the Atom, and Olicity in The Flash and Arrow this season, along with Laurel Lance as Black Canary, but goodbye to Sara Lance and (possibly?) Ollie. Batgirl got a new look and a new creative team. They took a mis-step this fall, but are looking to do better in the future.
The big news this year was the massive list of movies announced by both Marvel and DC. We have a lot to look forward to, including a standalone Wonder Woman flick directed by Breaking Bad‘s Michelle McLaren. DC’s had an up and down year representation-wise, but in general I’m feeling mostly optimistic about it.
As for 2015, I can only speculate about the news we’ll be discussing! Certainly CONVERGENCE will take up a lot of our time and attention (and money), and so will the premiere of Batman v. Superman.
Whatever happens, crusaders, you can be sure I’ll be watching it and reporting right along with you. Thanks for sharing this first year of the DC Daily Planet with me, and, as always, be sure to join me next week: same Bat-time, same Bat-channel.
