Happy Birthday WWAC: <3 Our Fellow Fake Geek Girls!

digital comics museum. glamorous romances 048

Three years ago I opened the first round of the Women Write About Comics Blog Carnival with this post. It wasn’t until June of 2012 that we transitioned from being carnival hub to an actual blog. This interview I did with romance writer and comics blogger (Geek Mom) Corrina Lawson, kicking off a series of interviews with comics bloggers and journalists, is how that change started. It wasn’t until December of that year that we started posting essays (our first: Tony Harris vs Cosplayers, and the Fake Problem of the Fake Geek Girl).

The site has changed a lot since then. We’ve added contributors and staff (so many people, guys, so many cool people), and coverage of games, books, movies, and TV. We’ve developed a lifestyle section that’s personal and no-pressure. We’ve done good work, learned a lot, and have big plans for the coming year.

Those of you who  gave us a boost in our early days — Sue (DC Women Kicking Ass), Heidi (The Beat), Brigid Alverson and the whole Comics AM crew, Melinda Beasi (Manga Bookshelf), Kelly Thompson (She Has No Head, Storykiller, JEM), Laura Sneddon, and Gail Simone — thank you, thank you, thank you. You guys are great.

Happy birthday WWAC writers and readers, and endless <3s to all of our fellow fake geek girls.
