Dozens of Indigenous creators are working on stories for a new collection highlighting the “complex identity of indigenous culture from across North America.”

Tlicho Naowo MOONSHOT KSIn the MOONSHOT: The Indigenous Comics Collection Kickstarter, small press publisher Alternate History Comics (AH! Comics) aims to create a full color, 200 page volume showcasing the rich heritage and identity of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis storytelling. The collection will include traditional stories that have the permission from the elders in their respective communities helping make it unique.

AH! Comics has been supporting diversity in comics since 2011 and uses a creator-owned approach to publishing. Funds from the Kickstarter will go towards paying writers and artists involved to create the original works, purchasing rights to republish some rare stories, print the first run of books and fulfilling backer rewards.

If the campaign reaches over $10,000 over goal, they will donate 250 hardcover books to universities, libraries and institutions across Canada.

Backer reward levels start at $2 CAD (~$1.73 USD) level for a personal thank you email to $360 CAD ($~310 USD) for limited edition canvas art. At various levels, digital and print copies of the book and can include extras such as bookmarks, limited edition signed art prints and 5 real usable Canadian Collector Stamps. Shipping does not appear to be included in the reward level, but the pledge screen will total it nicely for you.
