Seriously, people, we all know that real life gang violence and organized crime is screwed-up and horrifying, but, when it comes to fiction, girl gangs are about the best thing in the world. Tough girls defending turf, kicking butts, riding motorcycles! Finally, BOOM! Studios is bringing us the girl gang comic we need with Curb Stomp, a four-issue miniseries starting in February. Creators Ryan Ferrier, Devaki Neogi, and Neil Lalonde talk about the inspiration of the books and, what I think is particularly interesting, how the character designs of each character came to be. Check out the interview then pre-order this book, post-haste.
One of the hottest indie comics of the moment, Copra: Round Two has been announced for early 2015. For a long time this book was only available by ordering singles off creator Michael Fiffe’s site or picking them up at cons, so hooray for Copra getting a wider distribution!
Fuse, by Anthony Johnson and Justin Greenwood, should be on the radar for all those looking for diverse characters in comics. It’s a police procedural set on a space station with a cast that actually reflects what the demographics of the future will look like, not just endless white dudes in space suits. Writer Anthony Johnson talks about the series and its new storyline here. For those looking for something new and good, check out the first collected storyline that came out recently for $10.
