Cast Update: World of Warcraft Movie Cast to Include Two Women
During Blizzcon this past weekend, the Warcraft movie panel announced the cast for the upcoming film adaption of World of Warcraft and it includes two fabulous female actors!
The panel was hosted by the Nerdist’s Chris Harwick and featured the film’s director, Duncan Jones, Christ Metsen (Blizzard Senior VP of Story and Franchise Development) and Bill Westenhofer (Visual Effects Supervisor on Warcraft).
The casting announcements included two women fighting on behalf of the Alliance. Ruth Negga will play Lady Taria, the Royal Queen of Stormwind. Marvel fans may recognize Ruth — she’s been playing the mysterious Raina on Agents of SHIELD.
Paula Patton will play Garona. Of the mysterious character, the director said “we have our orcs and we have our humans and Garona is special.”
Rounding out the Alliance are Travis Fimmel as Anduin Lothar, Dominic Cooper as King Llane Wrynn, Ben Foster as Medivh, and Ben Schnetzer as Khadgar.
Women are lacking in the Horde, though, with Toby Kebbel playing Durotan, Rob Kazinsky as Orgrim, Clancy Brown as Blackhand, and Daniel Wu as Gul’Dan.
Towards the end of the movie panel, Rob Kazinsky (Orgrim) joined in on the fun. Rob also took over the Legendary twitter feed to chat.
