Ah, romance comics. Is there any genre of comics that are more consistently baffling than those books of the Golden and Silver Age? We think not! And yet we are asking you, dear readers, to interject your own bit of crazy into these already guffaw-inducing comics with a caption this contest! We are even offering a totally appropriate prize that will bring you to tears and enrage your frenemies (per the social norms established by romance comics). Enter now to win a hardcover copy of Young Romance: The Best of Simon & Kirby’s Romance Comics!

Young Romance, Simon and Kirby

We regularly feature panels from romance comics on our Twitter using the hashtag #RomanceRevisited. All of the images are from the Digital Comics Museum, a wonderful site that hosts scans of comic books that are now in the public domain. Many of our banners are sourced from this site as well. We want you to join in the fun by offering your own unique take on this out of context panel:

Starting today, you can visit the Women Write About Comics Facebook page and enter this contest by adding your own caption. Here are the official contest rules: No purchase necessary! Just create a caption for this panel, and leave it in the comment section of the image (entries on our Twitter, Tumblr, Google+ and on this post will not count). You may enter multiple times, but once an entry has been posted, it cannot be edited and will be deleted if modified. The caption that receives the most likes by Tuesday 11:59 pm CST, July 22, 2014 will be declared the winner. In the case of a tie, the winner will be determined by WWAC editorial staff. We will contact the winner via Facebook in order to mail you the prize; if we do not receive a response within one week, the prize will be offered to the second place winner. If still unclaimed after an additional one week, we will add this lovely gift to our pile of future contest prizes. The grand prize has an approximate retail value of $25.00 (US). Facebook does not endorse this contest. Promotion is void where prohibited by law.
