Strange Chemistry Is No More

Strange Chemistry

This morning news broke that speculative fiction publisher, Angry Robot’s Young Adult imprint, Strange Chemistry and crime fiction imprint, Exhibit A will be no more. This means that all future titles have been cancelled, including sequels to pre-existing series, such as the third books in Laura Lam’s Pantomime series and Kim Curran’s Shift series.

A number of Strange Chemistry authors have shared that they don’t plan on abandoning their novels/series and will be looking for other methods (from self-publishing to crowd-funding) to get their stories out there. There is still no word on what will happen to existing Strange Chemistry titles and whether they will remain in print after the stock runs out.

Publishing is a tough industry and it is difficult for an independent publisher to compete against the big guys in New York. I’m sorry to say that I never read an Exhibit A book but I have been a dedicated Strange Chemistry for awhile now. I’ve always appreciated their commitment to publishing unique and diverse books. They’ve been an honour to work with as a blogger/reviewer and a joy to discover as a reader.
