Following the success of Afterlife with Archie, publisher Archie Comics has announced that series writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will be writing the upcoming horror-themed Sabrina series.  Think less Sabrina the Teenage Witch, more dark terrors of the unknown.  With Robert Hack as the artist, issue #1 will be out in October.

Disabled Character Coming to Archie Comics, Publisher Continues Being Awesome

In another example of Archie Comics showing the rest of the industry how it’s done, the publisher has announced that it will be introducing a character with a disability to Riverdale.  While there have been disabled characters in the past, this will be the first time one receives a significant story focus and character introduction.  It’s great to see that the publisher’s commitment to diversity is still strong and more readers will be able to see representations of themselves in comics.  The character Harper’s first introduction is Archie” #656 on stands June 4.

Jim Henson Un-Produced Screenplay Comes to Life as Graphic Novel

The world will get some never-before-seen Jim Henson work soon, as Roger Langridge is working on adapting an unused Muppet screenplay into comic form.  Jim Henson’s The Musical Monsters of Turkey Hollow will be coming out from BOOM! Studios in October, and the available art looks wholly adorable. While this doesn’t feature any favorites like Miss Piggy or Kermit, Langridge’s illustrations still have that classic Muppet feel.

Creators Talk Lady-Led Dark Fantasy in Umbral 

The first volume of Umbral is out recently from Image Comics, and creators Antony Johnson and Christopher Mitten talk with ComicsAlliance about how the opening storyline and its impact on Rascal the lead character.  This is a gorgeous book that’s criminally overlooked, and it’s interesting hearing what the creators have to say about what’s coming up for future issues. Fred Van-Lente Talks Upcoming Ressurectionists, a Comic Combining Ancient Egypt + Crime

Mix Oceans 11, past lives, and ancient Egypt, and you might get Ressurectionists, coming soon from Dark Horse Comics. Writer Fred van Lente talks about his creator-owned series with artist Maurizio Rosenzweig.  This is a fun, ridiculous concept and Fred van Lente has proven he’s really good at these.  Issue #1 arrives in November.
