News & Things

Megan Purdy

Guys, just a reminder that the Gender Through Comics MOOC starts next week. Liz and I will be taking the course, and from time to time, I’ll be chatting about it here. I’d love it if you would join me in these discussions.

Course materials are available on Comixology here. How cool is that? Pretty damn cool.

Kickstarter(s) of the Week

Elysia, by Serena Obhrai and J. Gyllblad is an original Urban SF/F graphic novel about angels, teenagers, and friendship. Part coming of age story, part epic adventure, Elysia fits neatly into the contemporary YA lit/comics zeitgeist. And while the preview art could be more polished, it’s super cute–and so are the character designs.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the project, to see how it develops.

chroma anthologyThe Chroma Anthology, by Ellen Woods (and others) is the first book from Zenpop, a new Irish indie publisher that aims to debut new and amateur artists. The anthology will include work by Leeann Hamiltion (Finn & Fish), Triona Farrell, Ellen Woods, Ruth Redmond (Ponder), and many more comics making ladies (and gentlefolk).

The Kickstarter is intended to fund their marketing, publicity and distribution efforts. And I gotta say, it’s refreshing to see a Kickstarter project that’s already thinking about these crucial practical questions.

That’s all for today, as I’m knee deep in exams and assignments. See you next week with actual news (and things)!
